Beloved bassist James Gilyard, who served as Artistic Director of Sammons Jazz from 1999 to 2011, leads a first-rate ensemble in two sets of music from each of the major eras of jazz, from ragtime, Dixieland, swing, and bebop through the “kinda blue” and modal eras.
Presenting great jazz since 1989, Sammons Jazz is held at the Sammons Center for the Arts, 3630 Harry Hines at Oak Lawn. Ticket prices include beverages, a light meal, and valet parking. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Each performance features two sets of about an hour each with an intermission between. Dress is casual. For more information or to order tickets, call the Sammons Center at (214) 520-7788; all major credit cards are accepted.
